One of the many joys of being located in Málaga is the thousands of hectares of vineyards that you can visit. We know and love the wines of Andalucía and we want to tell you about some of the more amazing wineries that you should visit. Many of these incredible wineries are located in Ronda, which is only one hour away from Siesta Homes’ beautiful development The Oakhill, so let’s start there.

Bodegas F. Schatz (Ronda)

Friedrich Schatz decided as a teenager that he wanted to keep his family’s wine making tradition alive. His family produced their wine in Korb in Southern Germany, but Friedrich was interested in finding a warmer climate where he could make his wine. His journey started in 1982 and in the end, he chose to relocate to Ronda in Spain. He finally settled down in Finca Sanguijuela which is located in the Sierra de la Singuijuela. His vines consist of a wide variety of grapes: Lemberger, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay, Muskattrollinger, Tempranillo, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, and when it is time for harvesting, the whole process is carefully done by hand. You can visit the winery by contacting them on their website, and also become a member of “Club Schatz” for exclusive benefits. As mentioned above, Ronda is only one hour away from Marbella and it’s worth visiting this incredible bodega if you are in the area. Bodega García Hidalgo (Ronda)

This family-run winery was founded in 2006 by the García Hidalgo and is headed up by owner and wine expert Miguel García Pereila. Surrounded by mountains, the Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot vines cover two hectares and sit 500 metres above sea level. Following traditional methods, harvesting the grapes is done manually and to avoid any pressure they are collected in smaller boxes. Only the best grapes are selected as the owners focus on quality rather than quantity. It is possible to stay overnight with the García Hidalgo family in the winery’s accommodation and to take a tour of the vineyards and winery, taste the wine and also dine with the winemakers. It is, of course, possible to visit the winery only for a tour and tasting. Jorge Ordoñez (Vélez-Málaga)

Grupo Jorge Ordoñez was founded in 2004, by the man himself Jorge Ordoñez, and today consists of eight wineries across Spain. The philosophy of Ordoñez is to keep the traditional way of making Spanish wine alive, and when he moved to the US his mission was to make people aware of the quality of fine Spanish wine. He now has many awards to his name and, in addition to owning eight boutique wineries, he is also the co-owner of two other bodegas. The winery in Málaga makes its wine from Muscat from Alexandria, using vines planted between the years 1902 and 1974. Furthermore, at the 2012 Nobel Prize dinner, his wine “No2 Victoria” was the first ever Spanish wine to be served. Bodega Ordoñez (Vélez-Málaga) is located only an hour away from Marbella. Bodegas Quitapenas (Málaga)

This winery dates back to 1670 when the Suarez family first engaged in winemaking, but the winery’s official history starts in 1825 when Roman Suarez inherited a vineyard in the Axarquia region. However, the name of the vineyard and winery wasn’t officially established until 1880. Having moved around over the years, the company currently has large premises in Guadalmar, as well as numerous wine and tapas bars along the coast and in Málaga. The winery has made quite a name for itself in Málaga and is a popular stopping point for people visiting the city. Quitapenas can also be hired for banquets, weddings and more.
