The autumn arrives with a palette of dark ocher and a myriad of green, painting the landscape of the Sierra de las Nieves forests. It is one of the best times of the year to visit them and fill your lungs with oxygen.

When autumn arrives at the Sierra de las Nieves, the oaks and pine trees show their different shades of green while the chestnut trees fill the roads with a copper colour, becoming one of the most typical autumnal pictures in the Serranía de Ronda and the Sierra de las Nieves.

It is a pleasure for the senses where you can enjoy hiking, taking photos or simply having a quiet walk through the natural landscape.

With the end of the summer, the bellowing of the deer begins in the sierras, signifying their mating ritual.  The males try to attract the females with spectacular bellows that also serve to drive away other candidates and ensure their reproduction.

During spring and summer the females separated from the males to take care of their young. But when autumn arrives, the females are ready for mating and the males prepare for a horn-to-horn fight. Their goal is to attract as many females as possible and to perpetuate their species.

The best moment to witness this show is at sunset when their echoes can be heard several kilometres away. As such, there are stable populations of deer in the natural parks of Grazalema, Alcornocales and Sierra de las Nieves.

The Copper Forest is a metaphor that refers to the typically autumnal print that occurs with the fall of the leaves of the chestnut trees. The mountains are covered with a colourful mantle that runs from brown tones to yellows, oranges and ochres.

It includes eleven municipalities: Alpandeire, Benadalid, Benalauría, Cartajima, Faraján, Genalguacil, Igualeja, Jubrique, Júzcar, Parauta and Pujerra in the Serranía de Ronda and Yunquera in the Sierra de las Nieves. All of them with a great tradition based around the chestnut.

In addition to enjoying beautiful autumnal images, visiting the Copper Forest will also allow you to discover twelve white villages that each have a great cultural and gastronomic wealth.

The viewpoints strategically located in these villages are perfect places to enjoy a panoramic view of the forest.
