Marbella city council has been strengthening its brand image internationally this month at the World Travel Market fair in London, meeting with representatives from golf, hotel and luxury sectors.

The main focus of their presence was to consolidate Marbella as a destination of choice for British tourists.  Javier Porcuna, Marbella’s tourism representative, highlighted the importance of British tourists, pointing out that “The British account for a third of Marbella’s visitors and supported a large number of tourism companies throughout the crisis in Spain.”

English footballers and international referees, including the footballer Luke Chambers and the international referee Mark Clattenburg, visited the Marbella stand, with the mayor stressing that "players of first division English and Spanish football leagues have been increasingly purchasing real estate in the city, reinforcing Marbella as a 5 star tourist destination”.

Meetings also took place with the London Tourist Board, bloggers and social networking experts, with the director of the Golf Tourism Association of Japan, Naoko Takahashi, with companies from the luxury and events sector and with the Andalusian Hotel Chain ‘Playa Senator’.

In addition, meetings were held between the Marbella Film Office and the MTC Group (Congressional Luxury Tourism of Eastern Countries), among other meetings aimed at promoting the city as a destination for filming.
