Volunteers visited the Ojén Eco Reserve this month to irrigate and take care of trees planted last winter in the Sierra de las Nieves.

The event that took place on the 14th of July was promoted as a new form environmental volunteerism that, in addition to caring for the natural park, allowed volunteers to enjoy a day of coexistence with nature and the native wildlife.

The work consisted of supporting irrigation systems within the Eco Reserve for recently planted trees such as fir trees, cherry trees, walnut trees, hazel trees, etc. Reservoirs were also checked to ensure there is sufficient water for the diverse wildlife during the summer period.

Volunteers were rewarded for their efforts with a guided tour, where they enjoyed watching the local animals, such as deer and mountain goat. At nightfall the Eco Reserve also gave volunteers a glimpse of its natural beauty with a firefly display.
